Our 21st “Eye-level event ” featured numerous insights from successful care entrepreneur Gunnar Sander. Three key topics were the focus of attention: the founding and development of Sander Pflegeheime, current challenges in the care sector (skills shortage, regulatory requirements, economic pressure), and networking between start-ups, SMEs, and innovations.

At our 20th Eye-level event, we had the pleasure of welcoming Bernd Schmidt-Ankum as our speaker, who gave a talk entitled “Entrepreneurship and values in times of change.” He took us on a journey through his career as an entrepreneur—a journey characterized by clarity, courage, and his firm set of values.

As Family Office zwei.7, we participated in the recently completed Series A financing round of Avelios. Avelios is developing a modular, cloud- and AI-based hospital information system that digitizes and efficiently networks clinical processes. With its platform, Avelios is creating the basis for an intelligent “operating system” in the healthcare sector.

The exciting topic this time with the successful entrepreneur Oliver Drews from Hamburg: “Can SMEs also do private equity? The Telio success story…”. Oliver gave an impressive account of the Telio Group’s rapid development as a leading provider of digital technologies and communication solutions in the prison system.

Together with Colliers International, we once again organized this year’s Real Estate Fusion in Leipzig, the city that has accompanied us as an investment location for 13 years. An industry event that focuses on personal exchange, relevant impulses and genuine encounters. In addition to exciting presentations and a relaxed golf tournament, which was more about networking than handicapping, innovative start-ups and an emotional charity element for the benefit of Elternhilfe für krebskranke Kinder Leipzig e. V. were particularly impressive.

This time, Larissa Zeichhardt (entrepreneur, investor, networker, mentor, advisor and encourager from Berlin) was our guest. She described her involuntary start in the family business LAT Group after the death of her father and shared her personal experiences and lessons learned. She also reported on numerous digital innovations for a medium-sized company from a rather dusty industry.

We had the pleasure of welcoming over 40 guests to the first regional Immo-Talk.
In collaboration with WFO Wirtschaftsförderung Osnabrück we established a platform that allows real estate professionals from the region to exchange insights and generate new ideas for the development of our city. The evening can be summarized as follows: Four experts from various sectors, engaged and open-minded guests, and a relaxed yet stimulating atmosphere that fostered a productive and successful exchange.

We proudly look back on our successful ‘REAL ESTATE FUSION’ event in Leipzig at the beginning of June with over 200 participants from the real estate industry. The exchange on trends in investment, office and logistics as well as the presentations by our partners offered inspiring perspectives for the future. A day full of networking and new insights into the challenges and opportunities of our industry.

This week, Christian Miele, well-known from the venture capital market and former chairman of the Startup Association, was a guest at our “Eye-level” event series. He gave insights into the venture capital market, the financing situation of start-ups and the family business Miele. Christian also emphasized the potential of cooperation between SMEs and start-ups.

The real estate industry, a key economic driver in Germany, is facing unprecedented challenges: higher interest rates, rising construction costs, skilled labor shortages, and vacancies due to remote work. As a team involved in the real estate sector, we are continuing on our path and also continuing our search for exciting investment opportunities. We see a market that is gradually stabilizing and we are firmly convinced that our approach will continue to unveil promising opportunities for us.

At our 15th “Eye-level” event, Lisa and Frank Höcker shared their experiences of the generational change at their family business Höcker Polytechnik. They emphasized the importance of learning from each other on a daily basis, handing over responsibility and transferring knowledge. The professional and exemplary preparation with structured implementation of the handover process is a major success factor.

Sebastian Prüssmann (head chef at Sansibar Sylt) gave us a look behind the scenes of Germany’s most famous beach bar. He shared many entertaining stories and anecdotes during the talk with Stefanie Hiekmann.

After the renewed success last year, the Charity Dinner for HelpAge is going into the next round: Under the motto “Peaceful everyday life for older people” Gunnar Sander, Karsten Wulf and Thomas Bühner invite to this year’s dinner in favor of the PeaceDonor of HelpAge. With the donations from the FriedensSpender, the aid organization can respond as quickly as possible in crisis and war situations. The Charity Dinner will take place on Thursday, November 9, 2023, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Dock49 in Osnabrück.

“We can do growth! Restructuring is not what we enjoy.” At least that’s what we used to say. Until the company Blue Safety from Münster fluttered onto our desk. After intensive DD, the market, products, patents and, last but not least, Jan Papenbrock and his motivated employees convinced us to take over the insolvent company. Blue Safety is a developer and manufacturer of patented electrochemical systems for medical facilities.

We regularly support the startups of the Osnabrueck accelerators OHA, Smart City House and Seedhouse with HR workshops. For us, the support is not only a way to promote economic success, but also to have a positive impact on society and the future. We strongly believe that startups can change the world and we are proud to be a part of this journey.

“Meat is my vegetable” could also have been the motto of the evening. Wolfgang Otto is a successful entrepreneur and one of the leading meat experts in Germany. In dialogue with the moderator Stefanie Hiekmann, topics such as sustainability, origin, breed or even feeding of the animals were discussed during a meat tasting. Culinary accompaniment for the evening was provided by Tom Elstermeyer and his team from the IKO Restaurant. Many thanks for the great evening.

Tears, fear and panic – when children have an accident, it is often not easy for the rescue services to help them. In order to be able to provide help quickly despite this, many of them now rely on the “Tommy” comforter bear – as is now the case for the rescue service of the city of Osnabrück. We think: This is a good thing and are very happy to be part of it!

Taking over a family business in the 5th generation, modernizing, digitizing and growing by 9,000 employees – without losing the roots of the 150-year tradition – how is that possible?

We were able to report on this at the SME advisory board of Volksbank Bad Laer Hilter Melle Borgloh. The challenges are getting bigger and bigger. Everyone is currently feeling this! By 2030, there could be a shortage of up to 5 million skilled workers in Germany. The consequence: The labor market will finally become an applicant market.

How do you go from being a chef to a manager? Why do you open a restaurant in Taiwan? And what’s it actually like with Tim Mälzer behind the TV camera? We were able to talk to Thomas Bühner about this and many other topics. He provided exciting insights in an entertaining way. Food journalist Stefanie Hiekmann hosted the evening and was able to elicit a few more details from the star chef.

The first “Leuchtturmtage” on March 2 and 3 with our portfolio companies were really spectacular.
It was a great pleasure for us to get to know the founders of our portfolio companies even better. This was not only an absolute added value for us, but also for the founders among each other.

Successful repositioning of spaces is our daily business, which we rarely report on. For the first time, we visually accompanied a construction project – resulting in a great video about the development of the space and part of our work in the zwei.7 team.

The entrepreneurs present had a lively discussion about current challenges and the future of German small and medium-sized businesses.

It was a great pleasure for us to talk to the Osnabrück startups of the OHA, Seedhouse and SmartCityHouse about HR topics such as employer branding, recruiting, leadership and self-leadership. Because HR topics are important for every startup, no matter in which industry. In addition, this offered the opportunity to get to know many other founders and their ideas over beer, pizza and table tennis after work.

“Do you still manage or do you already lead?” Prof. Dr. Uwe Kanning and Lisa Paul from zwei.7 talked about this with invited guests at our Eye-level event and shared exciting insights. Because poor leadership costs the German economy 105 billion Euros a year. That’s why we need good leaders.

The fact that the 35 entrepreneurs who were guests at our “Eye-level” event had many questions burning under their nails is probably no surprise to anyone in these troubled times. That’s why we are overjoyed and proud that the federal chairman of the FDP, Christian Lindner, took the time to provide answers. And he did so honestly, unembellished and extremely eloquently.

What kind of business owner would not take advantage of these? As part of our “Insights” series of talks, Frank Willems (medipee.de) laid out how he successfully navigated Germany’s subsidy jungle and received up to €50 million in support over the last 15 years. He discussed what type of assistance exists via funding institutions such as the Zentrales Innovationsprogramm Mittelstand (ZIM), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), various EU organs, and many more, as well as methods to draft competitive grant proposals.

Award-winning star chef Johannes King traveled from Sylt to join us at zwei.7 to share his passion for port. He vividly led us through the magical and stunning world of this unique type of wine, complemented by a sensational, perfectly paired menu by Tom Elstermeyer and his team from Iko. The event was moderated by food expert and cookbook author Stefanie Hiekmann, and overall, it was a delightful event with overwhelmingly positive feedback. We are donating the proceeds to HelpAge Deutschland for an aid project they have undertaken on the Ukrainian border.

It’s a question every business owner has asked at some point. There is hardly any topic that appears to be so complex and indecipherable. In this workshop, we will give business owners valuable insights into the main drivers of value as well as the relevant methods of determining these.

The Quii App is coming onto the market, which means producing content. Prof. Dr. Kanning presented the science of personality profiling, while Lisa Paul added practical tips for job seekers during the application process. The app helps reveal personality profiles that can help people make better decisions in different phases of their life. It can also aid business owners and personnel managers choose the right employees.

Sooner or later, startups reach a point where they have to – fortunately – start thinking about further growth. And as soon as that happens, it means thinking about employees, and therefore recruitment, the future of work, employer branding, and leadership. Recently, zwei.7’s Lisa Paul hosted a workshop concerning these topics for startups from the OHA Osnabrücker Healthcare Accelerator.

The success of a company rises or falls with its employees. But what exactly are the personnel challenges that mid-sized companies face today?
It was precisely this topic that Prof. Dr. Uwe Kanning and Lisa Paul from zwei.7 discussed with invited guests at a recent event for zwei.7’s “Eye-level” series. A recent event in our “Insights” series presented the renowned tax expert Dr. Daniel Kautenburger-Behr from Ebner Stolz, who gave attendees a compact overview of the selling process and precise tips on properly preparing for it.

For the second year running, we have been certified as a climate-neutral enterprise for our efforts to combat global warming. With our contributions to international climate-protection programs, we have offset our CO2 emissions according to the standards of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and in doing so have sustainably contributed to limiting greenhouse-gas emissions.

zwei.7 has sold the Wohnquartier Mertenshof, a residential development that the Osnabrück-based family equity company designed and built. The deal was finalized with an institutional fund administered by the Corestate Group on 1 September 2021.

The Bielefeld Emergency Medicine Foundation (Förderverein Notfallmedizin Bielefeld e.V.), the Christoph 13 rescue helicopter station, and the K&L Publishing House have agreed to publish an easy-to-read coloring and activity book about first aid for elementary-school children. The book, with plenty of pictures to color, playfully helps kids learn what kind of first aid they can give in an emergency. Supported by numerous local companies, it was possible to distribute the coloring and activity books to elementary-school children in Osnabrück at no charge. We were happy to take part in this endeavor.

With the recent acquisition of a stake in NUI Care, based in Munich, zwei.7 has further expanded its equity portfolio. NUI Care, founded in 2018 is a digital assistant for families caring for elderly relatives. The primary goal is the optimization of routine care and nursing activities.

During this event, cohosted by zwei.7 and the BVMW (German Association for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses), attendees learned how understanding personality profiles can reinforce team cooperation. In a nutshell, the better we understand the otherness of others and recognize the value of that, the more harmony and success the team will have.

In the BVMW’s (German Association for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses) weekly discussion series entitled #freitagmorgennumhalb9, zwei.7 founder Karsten Wulf spoke about the unique challenges of family business succession in SMEs.

In February 2020, zwei.7 Equity acquired a share of the Ossenberg/Kowsky Group – Germany’s leading producer of walking aids for the mobility-impaired. The implementation of a new advisory board will aid the company in achieving even greater success.

More than a third of all managers suffer from feelings of burnout. Healthy self-management therefore is a vital component of company management.

Forecasts indicate that by 2030, there will be a shortage of over five million workers in Germany. How can your company already start preparing for this today?

With the partial acquisition of Rosental Organics GmbH from Berlin, zwei.7 has further diversified its portfolio in the influencer-marketing sector. Rosental develops and markets products from the rapidly growing segment of natural cosmetics and healing stones.

The idea of zwei.7’s new event series, entitled “Insights,” is to give interested companies from around the region a peek behind the scenes of the M&A business. Attendees learned about important company-valuation mechanisms and about entrepreneurial partners for succession planning and growth-capital acquisition. By the end of the three-hour workshop, the consensus was that the first “Insights” workshop had been well worth the effort.

The zwei.7 Group has taken a major step toward climate neutrality. Since early summer, we have supported the Development and Climate Alliance (Allianz für Entwicklung und Klima). After external audits and workshops, we have successfully offset our impact, and our location in Osnabrück has been certified as climate-neutral.

The corona crisis has been financially challenging for many organizations, leading to losses and funding difficulties precisely when these organizations have been most necessary – and the HelpAge aid organization is no exception. But unity breeds strength. HelpAge and Karsten Wulf, CEO of the zwei.7 Group, have cultivated a relationship since 2016. When Wulf heard about the charity’s financial gap, he leveraged his network to raise €100,000 of emergency donations for the organization.

In addition to solidifying its market position, product development and innovation has been a key component of zwei.7’s recent acquisition. 2.2 million products already leave the Ossenberg factory every year. The corona crisis has facilitated other shifts in the company as well; alongside walking aids and forearm crutches, respiratory masks and medical disinfectants are also being produced by the family-equity firm.

The Ossenberg Group has acquired Ganymed, headquartered in Berg near Munich. In doing so, Germany’s leading producer of walking aids for the mobility-impaired has expanded its product portfolio. With the acquisition of Ganymed and its award-winning product designs, Ossenberg has reaffirmed its commitment to its strategy of expansion and innovation.

The zwei.7 family equity company has acquired the Ossenberg Group, Germany’s market leader for walking aids and forearm crutches. For the Osnabrück-based zwei.7 Group, it was the first acquisition in the healthcare sector since the company’s founding in spring 2018. Both companies have confirmed their intention to intensify and build on Ossenberg’s history of growth in recent years.

Since December 2019, the zwei.7 Group has been an equity partner for LevlUp, an eCommerce firm that has rapidly established itself as a leading German company specializing in energy drinks for the eSports/gamer market.

The 1 December 2019 issue of the Business Newsletter (Wirtschaftsnewsletter) published by the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung featured an interview with Karsten Wulf, in which the founder and CEO of zwei.7 Holding discussed the topic of family equity.

On 13 November 2019, the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung published an article about Wunderbunt. The organization gives a hand to parents with handicapped children regardless of their circumstances, gives them practical advice, and helps them with their worries. The four founders of the organization are from Osnabrück and Wallenhorst; zwei.7 Holding GmbH has supported Wunderbunt since November.

On 24 July 2019, the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung featured an article about zwei.7 Founder and CEO Karsten Wulf and his new enterprise. The cofounder of buw and independent entrepreneur outlined how he would like to use his knowledge and capital to help mid-sized companies.

The Association of Family Businesses (Die Familienunternehmer e.V.) invited Karsten Wulf as to speak at their event in Oldenburg. He explained to the over 30 business owners from throughout the region how various business challenges can be overcome. To round out his presentation, he used vivid, practical examples from his own career as an entrepreneur.

Since 2019, the zwei.7 group of companies have invested in the biogas plant in Vahldorf (near Magdeburg) run by BioConstruct of Melle.

Yet another property has made its way into the portfolio; zwei.7 has acquired an office and logistics complex in the Hellern neighborhood of the company’s hometown of Osnabrück.

Traditions are worth maintaining. For this reason, we once again had our Christmas cards crafted in Osnabrück, this time in cooperation with the Paulus kindergarten on Tannenburgstraße. During the Christmas party, among games and songs, a check for the amount of €2,700 was donated. As thanks for the outstanding pictures they drew, all of the children also received a Christmas present.

6,600 m2 of floor space in downtown Nuremberg was added to the portfolio in January 2019. zwei.7 acquired the office building on Waldaustraße via an SPV owned by the Frankfurt-based RFR Holding GmbH.

In 2018, zwei.7 supported the “Altes Wasserwerk” inclusive kindergarten in Osnabrück. Alongside singing and Christmas cheer, a check for €2727 was made out to the kindergarten; to thank them for the pictures they drew, the children also received Christmas presents.

A recent project by the Förderstiftung Osnabrück requested donations for the installation of noise prevention systems in nursery-school rooms. Children that suffer from hearing impairments often have significant difficulties with listening and concentrating without these noise-reducing modifications in buildings. zwei.7 was glad to support the installation of one of these “quiet rooms,” and donated €2,700.

The zwei.7 team participated in a charity relay featuring the slogan “Who’s faster than the grandmas?” around the Rubbenbruchsee near Osnabrück. 33 teams with a total of 200 runners participated and, in the end, collected €17,000 for HelpAge.

zwei.7 celebrated the laying of the keystone at the Mertenshof in Bonn-Graurheindorf.

zwei.7 has broken ground with Brings general contractors on a 36-unit housing development in Graurheindorf.

zwei.7 has expanded its real estate portfolio and is happy to announce its ownership of high-value properties on the charming island of Sylt.

Building permit secured, 36 housing units to be completed, location directly on the Rhine. Project completion planned for late 2019.

The zwei.7 2017 Christmas cards have been designed with the help of the “kleine Strolche” (little rascals). In gratitude for the kindergartners’ efforts, they received gifts and a donation of €1,000.

Première in Osnabrück: galerie w has opened its doors and will serve as a platform for young creative talents.

zwei.7’s property in Leipzig on Torgauer Platz is approaching full occupancy.

The opening of zwei.7’s new headquarters was also an opportunity to raise money for HelpAge, during which €20,000 was collected for the charity.

In September, zwei.7 moved into its new office building in Osnabrück.
